@himbovoorhees Right? Like, telling someone they just broke your brain for the next 15-30 minutes SOUNDS like an accusation, even when you're simply trying to tell them "WHOOPS! That fucked me up, and now I must be left alone *ENTIRELY* to recover."
It's part of why I want to SAY "money shift" more often: that subset of #neurotypical folks HEARS "money shift" and knows a big, unintentional, time-consuming fuck up just happened & must be dealt with first.
How autism affects me:
1. We autistic people don't grow up learning social rules the way other people do. That affects how I text others bc texting is full of social rules. Most autistic people are ok texting.

Could the recent obsession by certain medical commentators on the rise in diagnosis of things like #ASD #ADHD be fear based?
Their whole sense of self is being threatened. They have used their own #neurotype as the benchmark, they even named it #neurotypical as a way of othering everyone else. But the rise in diagnoses is putting that idea of normal vs abnormal to the test. And God forbid that this trend continues to show that the numbers are roughly even or gasp that they are the outliers!
I have this beginning of a hypothesis that what we currently call "neurotypical" is a genetic adaptation (a quick calculation gave me roughly 7000 years, so about 250 generations) to city life.
My current idea is that city life requires people to filter out much of their surroundings, and even many of the social cues of their fellow city dwellers, because otherwise they would be in constant overload. This could explain their muted cognitive and emotional profile and their more adaptive social profile.
Anyway, just a thought for now.
PS: Wouldn't it be typical for Global North city dwellers to center themselves as the norm?
@alice In my experience flirting is a process that totally doesn't work for me. For me it can go in one of two ways:
1. The person is #neurotypical and has no clue that I'm flirting with them. Or I have no clue and they eventually just grab me, shake me and ask: "FFS, how thick can a person be. Wanna bang?"
2. The person is #neurodivergent : either of us just says "I like you, wanna bang?"
It's not that I dislike playing games. I just can't
Sooo....one day before my 52nd birthday I have a Really Real Official #ADHD Diagnosis.
This is after going almost 50 years with no suspicion, then 2 years of rx with no dx.
I've been sitting with the draft dx for 2 weeks. My main feeling has been: ohhhhhhhhh, other people aren't incomprehensible and incredibly slow. I'm just a zebra!"
I guess it's sort of a reverse tolerance thing. I'm giving everyone else slack for being #neurotypical.
I think I am going to take a walk this morning to get some exercise and clear my head. I need to do some clear, outside the box thinking when it comes to work opportunities. I find myself gravitating to the same old thing and the same old thing (what I know) just isn't bringing me happiness. It's just groundhog day all over again.
Maybe what it boils down to is that I just hate working period. I hate the politics at work. I hate politicking. But one has to do that these day. I am just an #autistic person that has to navigate a #neurotypical world. It's exhausting and nerve wracking. I am going to do the best that I possibly can.
But I really need to clear my head in some fashion. I think a walk around the block will do just that! I'll wait a bit until things warm up slightly.
It's coming up to #LGBTHistoryMonth in the #UK.
In #ELT, (English Language Teaching) we don't hear the voices of those with multiple intersectionalities. We lag behind mainstream #Education.
#IAmNotATaboo #blog wants to hear those voices from ELT educators, students and/or those who experienced invisibility at school - not only:
- #cis
- #white
- #nondisabled
- #GlobalNorth
- #neurotypical
- #men
You don't have to be involved in ELT to contribute - your experience of education and how not seeing yourself represented is valid.
And the ELT industry needs to know.
Interested to know how many Masto users/Admins have been diagnosed with, or self diagnose with either of these.
If you answer, feel free to explain your answer with a followup reply.
Genuinely interested to know.
Most of the time #neurotypical people add "we all do X sometimes". Yes. But I am describing my whole life.
Did you know that #ADHD and #autism are genetically favourable in an evolutionary point of view than being #neurotypical? It is valid so strongly that both are dominant mutations and most likely passed down to the next generation.
Like every mutation, being #neurospicy is only considered a 'problem' from a societal point of view that could not or was not willing to adopt to change.
We are the newest strain of humanity, and we are here to help, even if it has hurt us pretty much.
I keep editing my most recent toots, for quite a while - sometimes, it takes weeks to reach "final/sufficient" state;
NO, that's NOT #Autism!
…(you[?]) friggen unsophisticated "normies"! (it seems, #neurotypical might be as much of a miss-nomer, as it might be a viable insult.)
It's EXACTLY what i've been TAUGHT in trade school - KVP/Kaizen/CIP (continuos improvement process)!
…there's a friggen #ISO #industry #standard - 9001:2015! (There've been similar specs, since y2k)
