I am looking for a general #versionControlSystem based software that would output only if the file(s)/inputs are new or different from earlier.

This is what various scripts for #FreeBSD system status do (mail if paths in the base system have changed; new messages on boot; etc).

It would get input from standard input (possibly also regular old files); do the diff(1); if different, then would send mail to specific address(es) and/or write to standard output or error.

It would also track the states over time, say to see when a disk starts failing, or space usage.

It should have some way of ignoring time strings & specifying time format strings/regex to avoid useless output, per status input source.

I am asking before writing some version of above myself.

Continued thread

If someone with my very concrete skill-sets isn't totally barking up the wrong tree, I'm a #BikeMechanic with 3 years under my belt, have 3 years of #operations, #logistics, and #personnel management, #B2B client #management, customer service, and (depending on how Thursday's licensing exam goes) will be a certified EMT-B. I have a cumulative 3+ years behind the wheel of large cargo and passenger vans, with a fairly clean driving record.

My work history is full of naive, optimistic do-gooder work, and I'd like to keep it that way, but am at the point where my priorities are shifting to earning enough bread while conserving enough bandwidth to keep myself and my loved-ones comfortable. More naivety, no doubt, but an enby can dream.

Oh, more work history highlights:

I've worked as a #HistoricPreservationist with an emphasis on mortuary masonry. I am able to take on repair and maintenance work that requires a significant amount of research and referencing historic norms, past work, and document my work for future craftspeople. Even got a little sciencey when an intern set up a new cleaning experiment and left, where I took over the documentation of the new technique compared to the old technique compared to a control.

The point is, I've got a brain on me, I'm able to quickly adapt to new environments, processes, and modes of work, and I'm good at problem solving.

Hoping to get #fedihired - or at least make some connections, socially or professionally.

I've been working in tech for quite a while most recently in leadership of a program management org at a healthcare tech company in the US, though I started my career as a software engineer.

I'd love to work in product operations, help teams improve and customize their processes, help organize complex cross team or cross department projects. I'm great at leading teams or programs, translating between engineers and product and leadership. I build teams and processes that fit the long term business needs while minimizing overhead, not just following the latest framework.

I'm looking to move to #deutschland, specifically #berlin, been planning it for a few years but could use some help getting referrals or just connecting on LinkedIn in case we end up in the same circles.

Working on learning German (~A2) but will probably need an English speaking first role. Would love to chat with folks in the area, whether over a virtual coffee/lunch (my treat), or just connect. Even if your company isn't currently hiring and or you just want to connect socially, feel free to send a DM my way.

Looking through my Facebook memories I was reminded of a valuable piece of advice for every tech manager and executive on the planet:

Telling engineers during an outage that an outage is "bad" is a complete waste of everyone's time and a surefire way to make the outage last longer simply because your ego told you that you needed to insert yourself into the situation and to interrupt everyone to feel as though you're doing something important.

Either sit down and shut up, or ask people what they need to be successful.
