Update: I installed kubuntu-desktop, switched at login to 'Plasma' (which is what KDE goes by these days it seems), right-clicked on the bottom bar application icon (> More > Options or something like that, it speaks Finnish at me which is disorienting) to switch the entire organization of the panel component into a 'Taskbar', and then right-clicked on Firefox window representative > More > Unselected "Allow grouping this program" (translated to English in my head). Now I have the taskbar behaviour I need to stay remotely organized again!

Dear Internet, my Linux (Gnome) taskbar has stopped working (is no longer able to track my windows). and It seems all tools for having a taskbar are also dead. Any help appreciated.

Wanted functionality: I open 5 separate Firefox windows, each with a set of tabs, and I want to be able to go to my "left" Firefox window, since I know it has certain tabs in it even if the topmost one might be anything.

In the bar that comes with Gnome these days, these are 5 'dots' next to a Firefox icon and shown only based on what the window last looked like and in no particular order that I could manage.
