[aside: someone recently accused me of hypocrisy because I was against #Trump’s #FamilySeparation policy & also for so-called nontraditional #families, they said the fact that I am not against #divorce, exclusively man/woman marriage & children, made me a hypocrite. What I have to say to that:

…Ms. Waters, who recently co-wrote a #Heritage report on infertility.… has proposed directing the #NIH to expand its study of infertility & reproductive health conditions, including endometriosis. She has also proposed using govt funds to…*educate* #women on their #MenstrualCycles & their “natural fertility,” such as cycle-charting courses that many conservative #Christian women use to try to prevent pregnancy without using birth control [idiotic].

…The most ambitious plans for *#family* formation will not materialize right away, many movement leaders said. That is partially because, while other countries have tried a variety of approaches, it’s not yet clear what kind of policies will best incentivize people to have more babies — or whether those kinds of policy incentives are effective at all. Many ideas, like an expanded child tax credit or a “baby bonus,” would require an act of #Congress.

Some #Trump admin leaders have already begun enacting policies that promote larger #families. Most notably, Transportation Secy Sean Duffy—who is a father of 9 & has 10 siblings—published a memo early this year pledging to prioritize #funding in areas w/higher than average birth & marriage rates. Several analysts within the dept say the policy could result in less money for large, urban transit, & more for highways & car-share services in rural areas [white suburbs].

“Pronatalism strictly speaks to having more babies,” said Emma Waters, a policy analyst at the #HeritageFoundation, the #conservative think tank that led #Project2025. Waters, who says she is concerned about the birthrate but does not identify as a pronatalist, added: “Our ultimate goal is not just more babies but more families formed.”

#Trump, #JDVance & #Musk have cultivated the movement by publicly highlighting issues related to #family policy & “pronatalism” — both in the lead up to the election, & since Trump took office. Speaking to a crowd in January at the March for Life, an anti-abortion rally, Vance said he wanted “more babies in the United States of America” & more “beautiful young men & women” to raise them.

Last month, Trump pledged to be “the fertilization president.”

Much of the movement is built around *promoting* [dictating] a very specific idea of what constitutes a #family — one that includes #marriage between a #man & a #woman, & leaves out many #families that don’t conform to traditional #gender roles or family structures. In contrast to the intense emphasis on cost cutting so far during #Trump’s second term, this focus on families could result in spending more money to back a *new* set of priorities.

“I just think this administration is inherently *pronatalist*,” said the activist Simone Collins, referring to the movement to reverse declining birthrates.

Collins, along w/her husband, Malcolm Collins, sent the #Trump admin several draft #ExecutiveOrders, including one that would bestow a “National Medal of Motherhood” to mothers with six or more children. [ummm what???]

Admin ofcls have not indicated what ideas…they might ultimately embrace. But advocates expressed confidence that *fertility issues* will become a prominent piece of the agenda, noting that #Trump has called for a “baby boom” & pointing to the symbolic power of seeing #JDVance & other top ofcls attend public events w/their #children.

Those ideas, & others, are emerging from a movement [purportedly] concerned w/declining birthrates that has been gaining steam for years & now has allies in the US admin, including #JDVance & #ElonMusk. Policy experts & advocates of boosting the birthrate have been meeting w/ #Trump aides, sometimes handing over written proposals on ways to help or *convince* #women to have more #babies, per 4 people who have been part of the meetings….

The monotheistic religions made it normal to squash people: "I think there is something really special about the Bible [...] which is precisely this idea that the revelation of truth comes through the suffering of the weak." (Matthieu Poupart)

The #Smithsonian, the official keeper of the American story, has operated independently as a public-private partnership created by an act of #Congress in 1846. #Trump’s #ExecutiveOrder is an unprecedented act to edit an institution that — reflective of the nation itself — has expanded to include a wider, richer & more diverse telling of the nation’s #history.

Eeeewwwwww, #Trump’s comment saying, “We’re gonna have tremendous goodies in the bag for women too” has such creepy dick in a box vibes.

If the #DOJ wins, as many experts predict it will, the entire executive branch would come under #Trump’s direct control, allowing him even greater power over federal policy, & leaving virtually no barriers to his #MassFirings of civil servants in favor of political stooges.

The #DOJ is aiming to get these cases to #SCOTUS, where it’s betting that enough of the right-wing justices will agree to overturn the high court’s own #precedent on #independent agencies — encapsulated primarily in a 1936 case called Humphrey’s Executor — & axe the removal protections that keep leadership at such entities as the #NLRB or #MSPB insulated from political will or vindictiveness.

“I think that that would be within the President’s constitutional authority under the removal power…there would be separate questions about whether that would violate other provisions of the #Constitution,” McArthur said.

Judge Justin Walker, a #Trump appointee on the panel, swooped in to try to salvage the moment, saying to the #DOJ atty that he didn’t think “you would have to go there,”pointing to the protections of the #14thAmendment.

The startling admission came in response to a federal judge’s hypothetical.

“Could the President decide that he wasn’t going to appoint or allow to remain in office any female heads of agencies or any heads over 40 years old?” Judge Karen Henderson, a Reagan appointee on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, asked Dpty Asst AG Eric McArthur Tues in proceedings over the fired board members of two #independent agencies.
