Someone Put Facial Recognition Tech onto Meta's Smart Glasses to Instantly Dox Strangers

Students created something they call I-XRAY”

Specifically, it uses an image capture of the target’s face and looks up the target’s face on #Pimeyes (a company like Clearview AI, but allows anyone to use their service).

Their code automatically opens the URLs for “matches,” which can include sources like yearbook photos, school websites, etc. Scraped URLs are fed into LLMs to infer the “person’s name, job, and other personal details.”

The name is then entered into people search websites - which are typically ran by data brokers, who use a lot of different sources to put together profiles of people, which are then available to anyone willing to pay.

The information goes straight to a connected smartphone.

:ablobcatdundundun:

Worth noting that with photos of a target, anyone can do this manually. However, it becomes even more creepy if you could look at a stranger and have this information appear. #Cyberpunk, except, in real life.

404 Media · Someone Put Facial Recognition Tech onto Meta's Smart Glasses to Instantly Dox StrangersThe technology, which marries Meta’s smart Ray Ban glasses with the facial recognition service Pimeyes and some other tools, lets someone automatically go from face, to name, to phone number, and home address.

This is really REALLY scary: #Harvard students make auto-#doxxing glasses to show need for #privacy regulation. Basically with #Meta Ray Bans 2 they can identify people in the street. What I found out through the Google Doc they shared, is that #reverseimage #searchengine #PimEyes is 100% accurate and found SCORES of pix of me that were taken WITHOUT my knowledge, most in the street/from demos. I urge #activists #protestors to look into this NOW, opt-out & keep up.

Glasses stream to Instagram which is monitored by a computer program. Once #AI detects someone's face, their #IXRAY system pulls more photos of that person from the web along with public information about them.
