P. nymphula has made its earliest appearance so far, with late-April to early-May previously having been the time frame in which the first local odanata mark the peak of spring. Taking into account that temperatures are set to rise further and little rain being expected to reach my region towards the end of this week, we currently are set for a drought worse than 2018. And half of my local farmers are switching to wheat at the same time.

While there still is some time until the odonata season kicks off in my area, this male C. mercuriale still fascinates me due to his throax pattern. It's known that members of this genus can resemble each other but I haven't seen anyone document C. mercuriale with an abdomen similar to that of C. hastulatum.

(Also apologies, Vernissage doesn't support status edits so I had to delete my last post due to poor alt text.)

Things are starting to look bleak for this year now that C. splendens' spot in Z II has been partially destroyed, as well. The entire vegetation on the bridge of the bike path has been removed & the soil in and around the stream has been left in a devastating state. The other side's already being destroyed every May but now people have begun to destroy the very spots they seek out when everything gets mowed down to the naked soil.

I drew another damselfly!

(I mainly draw on tan paper like this at the moment, but I just got a couple of new sketchpads, one with moss green paper and one with stormy blue paper. Excited to see what my drawings will turn out like on other colours!)
