It is sad that morons keep using these kind of apps - the ones with #algorithms that allow #microtargeting of ads. And guess what: aggressive misinformation campaigns to win elections also count as ads!

@EUCommission this is great. But is the 'options to opt out of seeing recommendations based on profiling' really enforced?

If so that would really sort the problem out! #microtargeting via #algorithms is how reality gets distorted, and differently for each person.

Really you should ban surveillance (behavioural) advertising - that is a root cause one level deeper. The #RTB system 'bidsteam' data is the fuel for the cancer of the last 25 years: #surveillancecapitalism from #bigtech

Dennoch bin ich absolut dankbar, dass dieses Thema nun endlich mehr Öffentlichkeit bekommt. Wir geben z.B. Elternabende zu Medienkompetenz, aber die Sensibilisierung für dieses Thema ist gering. Und wo soll sie auch herkommen? Gerade die Databroker arbeiten weitgehend im Verborgenen, die kennt ja keiner.
Ich halte die Elternabende absolut für sinnvoll, und die TN sind durchaus geschockt und schütteln mit dem Kopf. Aber ob daraus auch eine Verhaltensänderung folgt, sehe ich leider nicht... da kann ich nur hoffen.

Shoshanna #Zuboff hat in ihrem Buch #TheAgeofSurveillanceCapitalism den passenden Vergleich gezogen: wer sich selbst schützt, hat einen Tunnel unter der Mauer der DDR gegraben und entkommt. Die Mauer steht aber noch, das System ist noch da und Millionen anderer noch darin gefangen. Hier kann nur Politik und Regulierung helfen.
