It only took a week and a half of going through the teaching guide, but I managed to successfully complete my first Stand-Alone Mission in Fields of Fire Deluxe. Playtime was about three and a half hours for eight turns. Three platoons plus company staff and attached units progressed up the map, only facing truly heavy resistance as they secured the primary objective. During the advance, failure to contact the artillery battalion led to some close calls with enemy contact, and a pair of LMG squads set up in overwatch of the attack point slowed things down as well. The mission was completed with 21 achievement points. I only captured one casualty, with the rest of the German troops fleeing from my advance.
It seems silly to me that securing a card ignores active fire against it, but if three squads all firing up the hill at my assault teams doesn't count against me, then I'm not going to worry about it.
