Our local Master of the Wind came calling yesterday.
As the smallest of raptors, the kestrel reminds us that:

Nankeen Kestrel (Falco cenchroides) Common names: Mosquito Hawk, Kestrel, Windhover, Hoverer The Nankeen Kestrel is a small hawk or falcon, found throughout Australia. The upper parts are mostly rufous, with some dark streaking. The wings are tipped with black. The underside is a pale buff, streaked with black. It is these pale soft feathers we see when they hover above us on the wind, scouting prey. Against a striking blue sky, a kestrel hovers on the wind looking down. The underside feathers appear almost white, while the splayed wing and tail feathers display black tips. The bird’s tan upper feathers are emphasised by the sunlight striking its head.
